Transportation in Philippines
Philippines,
the beautiful archipelago nation, is endowed with exceptional natural
beauty and cultural charm. Thousands of tourists visit the country
to discover its unmatched scenic beauty and rich cultural heritage.
The Philippines offers excellent modes of transportation, including
air, rail, water and road, which make traveling a rewarding experience
in the country. Though airplanes and ferries are main transportation
mode for traveling across hundreds of islands, shuttle services, private
taxis, buses, bikes, and trains are other mode for transportation
within the cities.

The country has as many as 255 airports and 2 heliports (2004) including 2 international airports - the Ninoy Aquino Manila and Mactan International Airport, Cebu Island. The country has just 897 km of narrow gauge lines out of which only 492 km are in operations. There is only one operating railway line on Luzon Island, from Manila to Naga in southern Luzon. Three trains run daily to and from Manila on this network.
Road Transport in Philippines: Philippines has a remarkably good network of roads, spread among the islands, with highways on the Mindanao, Visayas and Luzon island groups. Bus, taxi and jeepneys (shared taxis using jeep-derived vehicles) services are widely available between the towns and cities. Car rental system (similar to those in the West), chauffeur driven cars and short and long distance metered taxis are also available in Manila and in major cities. At some places tourists can also hire self-driven bikes for short and long tours. Tricycles and trishaws are also popular in towns and cities and are cheap and best mode of road transportation.
